Many of our Share-A-Pet dogs and cats live out their life on the Animal Haven Farm
and in Kitty City. While they may never have found a home of their own,
they have been loved by staff and very well cared for.
They will truly always be missed. These are their memorials.
It is a great loss to staff and sponsors that we have lost our Bubba to cancer. He was tied to the entrance of Popcorn Park Zoo at the end of Humane Way on a cold and rainy night in October 2003. When staff found Bubba in the morning, he was immediately given vet care and a warm, comfy place to stay. He was then about 7-8 years old and quickly won favor with everyone for his gentle ways. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. August 2006
Striker was a sweet fella, who along with his buddy, Dallas, had a tough time of it. First found running loose, then later abandoned by an owner who went to jail, Striker found a happy life on the Animal Haven Farm for six years. He was recently found to have collapsed, and had a stroke. Our veterinarian believed the kindest thing for him would be to help him pass on.Striker will not soon be forgotten by staff and sponsors. October, 2006
Dallas was Striker's best friend and had been through thick and thin with him. She truly loved him and when he left us recently, Dallas followed shortly after. The vet found her to have become very ill and in kidney and liver failure. While we know Dallas passed away due to physical causes, we can't help but think she died of a broken heart without her best friend in life. Here she kisses the person who took care of her every day. Nurturing Nelda was a very giving girl, and she nursed several litters of orphaned kittens, saving their lives. We hoped by placing her on Share-A-Pet, she, too, would receive the `milk of kindness'. But Nelda stayed with us for twelve years, loved and cherished by staff. Nelda had been under the watchful eye of our veterinarian, treated for asthma and heart disease. Her condition worsened and when she no longer responded to treatment, Nelda was humanely put to sleep, believed by our vet to be about 20 years old. December 2006
Gabe (aka Goofball) Lisa, pictured hugging Gabe, asked that the poem below be added to Gabe's online memorial. She really loved him and ever since he was diagnosed with kidney problems she would come in on her day off to special feed him. She brought him beef stew, hot dogs and chicken since that seemed to be the only food he would eat. Lisa nicknamed him Goofball because he was very goofy.January 2007
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then will you do what must be done
For this--the last battle--can't be won
You will be sad I understand
But don't let grief then stray your hand
For on this day more than the rest
Your love and friendship must stand the test
We have had so many happy years
You wouldn't want me to suffer so
When the time comes please let me go
Take me to where my needs they'll tend
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see
I know in time you will agree
It's a kindness you do to me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I have been saved
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been so close,we two,these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears
