Cupcake arrived at a high-kill shelter in North Carolina at the beginning of Memorial Day weekend 2010. She was emaciated with sunken eyes and every rib sticking out. AHS responded to a desperate plea for help on Facebook.Visiting a vet as soon as she was rescued from the shelter, Cupcake was found to be suffering from anemia, heartworm, hookworm, roundworm and whipworm. After being vetted, spayed and fostered briefly, Cupcake began her new life at Popcorn Park. She rides around the zoo, accompanying General Manager John Bergmann on his rounds in a golf cart or hangs out in the camel barn.
