The circumstances surrounding the discovery of a male pit bull terrier and a terrier pup together as strays in the upper Vailsburg section of Newark are not known. The picture shows a bonding between the pup and the pit bull and was quite a heartbreaker. Since they came in close to 11 p.m., they were separated for the night. The next morning they were back together but neither seemed to be interested in the other.

Sadly, Big Daddy had been used as bait in dogfights and does not get along with other animals. He accepts Aliyah for short periods of time but our concern involves his possible irritation with this little dog if there is no supervision. Aliyah is about 2 months old and barely 3 pounds.

Big Daddy is somewhat traumatized by the changes that have gone on over the past several days. He is about 6 years old and was either lost, stolen or strayed and someone decided to use him in their dogfighting.

The story given by someone on the internet stated that the dogs were dumped at Fairfield Emergency Hospital. According to the report: ... He seemed to have neurological problems; he walked all over the office, exhausted and the little one followed him everywhere. She cried when separated from him for even a minute. He finally passed out on the rug and she stood guard, then slept on him".

The writer went on to say that they had "no choice" but to call AHS. We are not the enemy .... the person who had these dogs is. At another shelter, they would not have been given the care and concern that the Associated Humane Societies gives. Their time at AHS may very well result in Big Daddy and Aliyah going into a great lifetime home. Once Big Daddy is given a clean bill of health, his temperament may be very different than the bewildered state he appears to be in now. Big Daddy's file number is 112445-M and Aliyah is 112447.
