Update on Van Gogh - Feb.11

Vinnie had a good day today ... then again, any day that Vinnie wakes up perky, alert, and feeling better is a good day. If you caught our morning update, then you know that Vinnie is becoming quite vocal now! He now yodels and whines for his breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is so great to see. It's also great to see Vinnie getting up from time to time and walking to another area of his room to relieve himself. It's quite amazing, considering he has two seriously injured front legs and a broken hind leg. He's not letting it slow him down though, and he now takes a few tiny walks around his room every day.

What is not so great to see is that since Vinnie is so alert now, we're learning more about him by the personality that he is showing. He shows signs of being abused, which just breaks our hearts. If you reach for him too quickly or over him, he cringes, squints and goes down. We will fix this .. the more love and attention he gets from us, the faster he will put his terrible past behind him. We have also been able to clean him up in little areas of his body that won't hurt his wounds, and are noticing more and more punctures on him. Little Vinnie really has been through hell and he amazes us every day with his strength and will to live.

Vinnie was absolutely thrilled today to get himself a giant orthopedic bed and just rolled around in delight! As you can see, we surround him with all of the gifts that you all have sent, including toys, blankets, cards and more, and he is so grateful. He seems to have figured out that it feels good to stretch again so he's been doing that all day today, as you can see here. You can also see a little more of his underside in this one photo. The injuries to the insides of his front legs are absolutely horrific so we haven't showed much of that, but we are doing everything in our power to help them heal. We now prop one leg on a blanket when he lays down to get some air in there, and it helps. Vinnie still has such a long way to go, but every day he shows improvement.

Thank you all for your support and prayers for our little guy. Please keep them coming, and please contribute to our Res-Q Fund for the continued care that Vinnie will need over the next several months. Thank you all so much, and we'll update on our invincible Vinnie again soon.
