Widget - Matted, A Broken Leg, Left on the Street

It was the evening of Cinco de Mayo, the celebration of the battle of Puebla -- but this little lass was trying to exist by battling for survival. The young Affenpinscher terrier type dog was fighting for her life on many different levels. It was evening when the AHS was closed to the public and a call came in about her on the emergency line in Newark. She was heavily matted which masked a badly infected broken leg that had turned gangrenous.

After immediate first aid at the emergency veterinary hospital, Widget was returned to the Society's Newark shelter and admitted into the Medical Dept.

She is about a year old and our staff found it necessary to sedate her in order to remove the fur coat she was wearing. It was at that time that the horribly infected leg could be viewed. Dr. Adriana found it necessary to remove the leg. Please donate to our Res-Q Fund and help us to continue to help the needy injured and sick animals that come through our doors.

Now that her matted coat is gone, her leg has been amputated, she is doing quite well. She barely weighs more than 6-8 pounds and in need of a responsible caring owner.

For more information, call the Society at 973-824-7080 and refer to File 124775 or e-mail us.
