3 Dogs Chained Outside Vacant Houses in Freezing Weather

It's mid-December, when people are out doing their holiday shopping, attending parties, baking, wrapping presents, singing carols, maybe getting their dog's photo taken with Santa .. then these pictures come across your screen. They make you angry, sad, you want to look away, you question where the humanity has gone in this world. These pictures may even dampen your holiday spirits a bit. If they make you feel bad, can you only imagine how these dogs must feel? These dogs that know nothing of the holiday season, nothing about having a photo taken with Santa, and probably know absolutely nothing about what it feels like to be happy, safe, warm, loved, and treated with decency and respect. The one thing these dogs have going for them is this- they were found. Life will be different from here on out.

Three dogs were found by our AHS- Newark animal control officer over the weekend in the troubled city of Newark. These three dogs were found at vacant house in the city in the most atrocious of conditions. Unfortunately, this type of scene is all too familiar to our AHS-Newark officer. The dogs had the vacant expressions about them that a dog gets when he has lost all hope of ever living a normal, safe life, and they were cold, lonely, and sadder than any of us can ever imagine. They lived in plywood boxes on a patch of dirt, with cold and heavy chains attached to their bruised and sore necks. They had no food, no water no bowls.

Two of the dogs broke free of their chains and were found running down the street, which is how our officer came upon this horrific scene. After investigating the property and finding more evidence of the cruel treatment that these animals endured, he removed the three dogs and brought them to the safety of our AHS Newark facility. For the first time in a long time, maybe the first time ever, these dogs slept in a warm, safe place. They had fresh food, clean water, comfort, and whether they realize it now or not, the guarantee that they will never, ever be torn to shreds again to benefit individuals that are the lowest of the low.

This dreadful case is in the very early stages of the investigation therefore, all of the details are not yet available, but the important thing is, three dogs are now safe, and will be getting the medical treatment and good care that they desperately need. They have various injuries, punctures, torn flesh, possible infections....all of the things that those sick individuals inflict upon them when they use them for fighting. We will provide these dogs with every single bit of medical treatment that they need to heal their wounds which, of course, does not come without a price. Again we will rely upon the kindness and generosity of our compassionate supporters who contribute to our Res-Q Fund. Please consider making a donation to our Res-Q Fund or by texting HumaneHelp to 41444.

We will have more information and updates on these three coming soon. In most cases like this, the perpetrator is never found but if you should happen to have any information on the individual(s) responsible for the dreadful treatment of these dogs, please contact our AHS Newark facility at 973-824-7080.
