Sweetie, a 20 year old Rhesus macaque, once lived at a major research facility in Massachusetts. Although she was spayed there, she was never the subject of any animal testing. Nor were the other two macaques that shared a room with her. However, when the facility needed to place Sweetie, and wanted a caring place for her to go, they contacted us.
On June 29, 2006, Sweetie officially became a resident of Popcorn Park Zoo. In looking at Sweetie one can't help but notice considerable facial scarring and disfigurement. This was the result of a fight before she went to the research facility.
It hasn't affected her personality, and having gone through a brief adjustment period, she is becoming more social daily, enjoying her daily servings of vegetables, particularly cooked sweet potatoes.
We're happy to accept Sweetie and give her the kind of life she deserves. We hope you will welcome her as well, and consider sponsoring Sweetie through the Wildlife Club.
