Litter Can Kill

In many ways, the internet has been a blessing and a curse. The ability to expand our horizons and educate us is an overriding factor in many areas of interest. Litter can kill - - whether it be plastic bags, dropped off of boats and found floating in the ocean, fishing line that wraps around fish and sea creatures killing them, plastic 6 pack holders, yogurt containers and all manner of trash that is dumped in oceans, lakes, parks and woods.

Something as inoffensive as a basketball almost caused the death of a catfish in Texas. A man living near Lake Conroe saw the ball bouncing around mysteriously and found that the basketball had become stuck in the mouth of a flathead catfish. Each time the fish attempted to dive, the ball would always bring him to the surface. The fish was totally exhausted and the man tried numerous times to get the ball out but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflate it and release the tired and hungry catfish.
