Kate Adopted! Finds Happiness at Last

Read the latest update on suspects in Kate's abuse below ...

Kate, the 10 month old pit bull terrier pup, who just weeks ago was sodomized and barely clinging to life, has at last found where she truly belongs - in the arms and heart of Galina Yatsentyuk. Galina is one of the veterinary technicians at Garden State Veterinary Specialists, and the woman who nurtured and watched over Kate during her darkest hours.

After Kate had been released by Garden State to staff at our Newark shelter, Galina called every day for a progress report, wanting to know how Kate was doing. and expessing how much she missed her. Despite the many offers for adoption, staff thought there couldn't be a better match for Kate than Galina.

Galina and Kate are equally excited to see each other as they are reunited at Garden State.

So with one happier, healthier dog in tow, staff paid a visit to Garden State Veterinary Specialists to see Galina. Clearly, the reunion was a very happy one, and given the opportunity, Galina adopted Kate on the spot. Kate will also have playmates at home as Galina has four cats and another dog.

From a nameless, lonely pup in the projects who was cruelly abused, Kate has had a rough road in life, but at last her path has ended in happiness. Meanwhile, the investigation continues for Kate's abuser(s) hoping to find those responsible for such a heinous act

We are thankful for the outpouring of love and support for Kate, and are appreciative of those who have contributed to Kate's reward and medical care. We still have quite aways to go in covering the latter, and hope you will consider a donation to our ResQ Fund if you have not already done so.

Update 3/15/2007 - The New Jersey SPCA has been notified that two suspects in the sexual assault of Kate are now in custody.  The Newark police are now handling the investigation and will notify the NJ SPCA as soon as the matter is brought to a conclusion. As soon as we have more details, we will post them on the website.
