Cindy Lou the Cougar is 17 yrs old -- not the oldest cat here but she's been here longer than the other cats. She came from Sioux City Iowa in 1989. She was with her owner when he was killed in a car accident. Cindy Lou was not injured and escaped. The Animal Control Officers later captured her but no zoos wanted her because the owner had her canines pulled and declawed her, meaning she would not do well with other Cougar in their exhibits. We offered to take her as we had no other Cougars at the time.
She now lives with Tasha and Sheba and next to two other Cougars and two lions. Because of her seniority all the others know she's the boss, and she walks around her area like she is. She's the most vocal of them all. She has that presence, and all the other cats think she has a special in with the Zoo Director. It's almost as if everyone has to have her permission to do something before they do it. Here she is yawning in the morning ...... she may think she's running the whole zoo ... and doing it in her sleep as well!
For additional information on Cindy Lou, visit her in the Wildlife Club, where you could help support her.
