Every animal in Popcorn Park has its own special needs, and it is very important that they be taken care of to provide the animals the best health possible. Every day at the zoo brings something different, and this day, we are visited by the farrier.
Popcorn Park Zoo is home to a number of equines - horses, minis, and a Sicilian Donkey. All need regular hoof care. Every six weeks, our farrier, Joe Rispoli, comes out and tends to the hooves of our equine residents. Pictured is zoo staff member, Matt, assisting Joe with the horses.

Seven, above right and above, is having her hooves trimmed. At left, Seven's mom, Trudy, is making a quiet escape, figuring she may be next.

Holly is very patient while Joe trims her hooves. Joe is helped by zoo staff, Bill, at left, and Matt, at right.

Troy, a miniature horse, is taking his trimming in stride.

Trudy's turn! She, too, is very cooperative.
At left, Star, another of our mini's, gets her hoof picked out.
To show you the work the farrier is doing, we were not always able to show you the prettiest end of the horses - their faces! So be sure to click on any of their names and you will go to their profiles in the Wildlife Club where you can not only admire them, but sponsor them, too!
Thanks to Joe Rispoli for being such a great farrier to our horses.
