This affectionate dog, called Wishes by AHS staff, was picked up as a stray on South Street in Newark, September 16.
Her leg had apparently been badly injured and her owner had covered the leg by tying on a sock with a shoe lace. When the sock was removed, our veterinarian, Dr. Lisa Bongiovann, determined that the leg was so badly injured it could not be saved.
Today Wishes is recovering, doing well on three feet, and waiting for her forever home.
To help find the person or people who abandoned a badly injured dog on the city streets last month, AHS/Popcorn Park is offering a $1,000 reward. Such unconscionable treatment of an innocent animal should not be forgotten.
“She is a very sweet dog, a perfect companion, so much more deserving of the horrid life she must have been living before we found her,” said Roseann Trezza, Executive Director, Associated Humane Societies/Popcorn Park. “Our wish for Wishes is that she spends her adult life with a caring, loving family, and that whoever did this to her is prosecuted.”
We have set up a reward fund to be given to anyone who offers information leading to the arrest and conviction of this dog's abuser(s). Anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible should contact the New Jersey SPCA at 1-800-582-5979. Individuals or families interested in adopting Wishes should call Associated Humane Society at 973-824-7080 or contact us by e-mail.
Our Res-Q Fund is a special program that funds special care of animals like Wishes. If you’d like to help Wishes and others like her, please make a donation to the ResQ Fund today.
