Dottie - A Neglected Lab Needing Surgery

This beautiful black lab is Dottie. We wish Dottie could tell us her story, but we fear it is a sad one. Dottie was found wandering on a country road all by herself, on a bitterly cold day. How lucky for her that a good samaritan spotted her, and brought her to safety. When Dottie got here, she was quite shaken up and was literally skin and bones. We also noticed a large mammary mass, which our veterinarian will be treating.

Thanks to the generosity of donors to our Res-Q Fund the Society is able to handle the surgical and medical needs of this dog. Dottie didn't get in this condition overnight, so it seems whoever had her just completely neglected her. Yet even in the sad state she was in, Dottie had a giant smile on her face and could not stop wagging her tail! Dottie was vetted, warmed up, and fed a good meal, and she was so appreciative of the attention. She absolutely loves people and seems fine with other dogs and cats too.

Dottie loves to go outside and explore, and when she has playtime in our giant exercise yard, you cannot stop her from bringing you toys to throw for her. Dottie is the definition of the word, "retriever"! Even in her emaciated state, she was all fun and games and just wanted to play and run. She has a love of life and an easy-going personality. Dottie is already putting on weight and getting healthy, so she will be looking for a wonderful home with a family that will love her forever and never let her go again.

Dottie is at Popcorn Park located on Humane Way, off Lacey Road in Forked River. The shelter is open 7 days a week between noon and 4 p.m. For more information on Dottie, call the shelter at 609-693-1900 or e-mail us and refer to File 22237-F.
