Elastic Band Severely Cuts Poodle's Muzzle

It was mid-February when a stray male Poodle was brought to the Society's Newark shelter. Due to the curly hair and dirty, unkempt coat, it was difficult to ascertain the medical problem around the face so he was immediately brought to the Society's Medical Department for evaluation.

Above, prior to surgery. Below, after Boca's muzzle was stitched top and bottom.

Someone had taken an elastic band and wrapped it around the dog's snout. This act of cruelty is a slow, painful process in which the elastic band becomes entangled in the hair and eats away at the skin. The band had eaten away both the upper and lower jaws. It is excruciatingly painful and according to our veterinarian, if the dog had arrived two days later, the entire snout would have been eaten away and fallen off.

The Society's veterinarian has sewn the upper and lower damaged portions and the middle-aged gent is responding well to surgery. His wounds are healing nicely and he needs to find a new responsible owner.

We call him "Boca" and he is available for adoption. You can help Boca and the thousands of sick injured and abused dogs that require medical care by donating to the Society's Res-Q-Fund .

The Society is located at 124 Evergreen Avenue in Newark, just off of Rt. 1 and 9, 3 blocks from the Elizabeth line. For information on Boca, call the Society at 973-824-7080 or email us and refer to File #114910 The Society is open 7 days a week for your convenience.
