Aslan Rescued from Life as Bait Dog

Still think it's okay to post your unwanted pet on Craigs List for free, to a good home? Still think dog fighting only happens in bad neighborhoods? Well, our new friend Aslan is here to tell you otherwise. Aslan is a dog that made it into the wrong hands. Who knows how he was obtained by these horrid people ... maybe it was through a Craigs List post, maybe through a newspaper ad, maybe he was taken from someone's backyard, maybe he was a stray wandering the streets. However it happened, Aslan found himself in the worst position ever .... he was a bait dog for a dog fighter. This gentle, sweet, two year old boy endured the most awful abuse on a daily basis, and existed only to be abused more and more, every single day of his life. It's a miracle that he made it out alive and we are so happy for him that he did. Now the healing will begin.

We assisted in rescuing Aslan from these horrendous circumstances recently and now, we will be helping Aslan to become a healthy, happy dog again. We don't know if he has ever known human kindness in his young life, but he seems to know that he is in good, safe hands now. Aslan is just now discovering the many joys of life like having a warm, comfortable place to sleep every day, having good meals and much-needed medical care, and most of all, having people that are kind and gentle with him, and that will never, ever let him get hurt again. He is slowly venturing out for walks with some of his new friends, and checking out his new surroundings. His tail slowly rises the more comfortable he gets, and we hope to one day, have his tail wagging again and maybe even get a smile out of this sweet boy.

Aslan will need time to heal from his many physical and emotional wounds, so he will not be available for adoption yet, but we hope to have many progress reports to share with you soon. In the meantime, please consider making a donation to our Res-Q Fund in Aslan's name. This is the fund that we have set up to care for animals such as Aslan, that need extra special care. Find out more about our Res-Q Fund and donate.

The rescue of Aslan and 10 other pit bulls was done through cooperative efforts with federal authorities who were involved in a drug/firearm/dogfighting bust. For more information on Aslan or the other dogs waiting for kind and caring homes, call 609-693-1900 or e-mail us.

UPDATE AUGUST 20
Our sweet boy Aslan is starting to settle in and realize that he is safe. With lots of good care and TLC, we hope to transform Aslan from the terrified young dog that he is, into a happy, healthy, loving dog that will enjoy human kindness and companionship. His transformation will take time, so Aslan is not yet available for adoption, but please continue to follow his progress. See his new video.

UPDATE: Aug.28

We would like to send out an enormous THANK YOU to Christy Yachinski for her kindness and thoughtfulness. Christy read our dear boy Aslan's story and was very touched. Aslan is a beautiful sweetheart of a dog that we recently assisted in saving from a horrid existence. This poor pup was a bait dog for a dog fighter. Young Aslan came to us with many physical and emotional injuries, but he is quickly learning that he is now in good hands, and that we will never let him be hurt again. He is on the road to recovery and has made so many friends! It will still be a while before Aslan is ready for adoption, but he is well on his way! Christy was kind enough to send Aslan this toy and a very sweet and heartfelt letter, which he will proudly display on the front door of his run! Thank you so much Christy, and Aslan thanks you too!
