Handicapped Young Dog Gets Second Chance

Perhaps it was ignorance, neglect, indifference or cruelty – or perhaps all of the above. Brought in by a Newark resident , this 7 month old pup is seriously handicapped. Although he spoke little English, through a translator, we discovered that the dog was kept at a mechanic’s shop/garage. Perhaps they thought he would grow out of it, but he won’t. According to one of the veterinarians who examined “Alf”, he was probably kept in an undersized cage and had a poor diet. This has left him with the grotesque disfigurement that has resulted in difficulty in walking.

The 7 month old boy had been given a vulgar name by the owner/surrender and that will be the last piece of history that this dog will be attached to. The gentle soul quietly seemed to accept the flurry of activity that followed him during his arrival and admission process. Alf was brought into the Medical Dept. for x-rays. Due to his young age, it is recommended that he be given physical therapy and at a later date, he may be require orthopedic surgery. It is doubtful that he will be able to run or have the range of motion that most other dogs enjoy. But we are going to give Alf the best shot for a happy, healthy life. If you would like to donate to Alf and the Res-Q Fund, we will keep you informed of Alf’s progress. File TF-53972-M (Tinton Falls).
