Eating his lunch in Weequahic Park, a Newark resident got up to throw his leftovers in a trash receptacle. Next to the garbage can was a small Dachshund who appeared dehydrated, ill and elderly. He
rescued her and brought the dog to the Society -- only a few blocks away -- where she was immediately guided into the Medical Dept. due to her condition.
Her internal temperature was 93 degrees when it should have been 102. It is doubtful that she would have survived the night in her condition. The Veterinary staff gave her immediate care -- she was warmed up, given intravenous fluids, and within a few days, she was transformed into a lovely, lively, young lass who is about 2-3 years old. The Society's Education Team is planning to bring her to the Paw Pals Club at Kawameeh Middle School in Union where the group is currently sponsoring her and has named her Sweet Pea. They are also sponsoring Honey and another pit bull that was stabbed.
The Society is now accepting applications on Sweet Pea the Doxie. We are looking for nothing less than a lifetime of love for this adorable dog. Please contact us if interested in adopting her, referencing the following file number. File N-86779-F (Newark)
