Each week, the Society receives many alerts and requests to help thousands of animals across the country facing an unknown future. We monitor them and although we will not jeopardize the lives of those animals waiting at our facility, we cannot ignore the many pleas for help. An alert from Janine Gauthier, owner of Paws and Order Dog Training in North Carolina was sent to a huge number of e-mails, Facebook posts, etc. as far as California, Florida, Texas, New York and Canada. Sadly, the Society was the only one that said we would take them in.

Rusty, a 5 year-old male Dachshund

Janine is a volunteer for Hospice of Union County, North Carolina …. where the roads are just two lines in the grass and the dogs all come up to greet you when you get out of the car! Janine was advised that a patient was going to be told the next day that he had two weeks to two months live. The man had 5 dogs and was caring for his wife who has Alzheimer’s. The gentleman never did make it to two weeks – but his only concern was for his wife and animals. One of his last wishes to have his dogs adopted out to loving homes. Janine was trying to make that happen …. and so are we.

The dogs will be arriving by transport to our Forked River animal shelter on Sept. 12th.
