All too often, the Society is given the pets after their owners pass away. In most instances, no provisions were made for the future of their pets. Left behind are families in mourning who do not or cannot have the animals at their home. If you have pets, it is our hope that you wishes are made known to your closest relative, friend, lawyer, etc. as these are burdensome decisions that can be made before you become incapacitated.
Dixie, a 9 year old Welsh Corgi and Roxie, a 13 year old Dalmatian were the close companions of a Monmouth County resident who recently passed away. Although they lived together these many years, neither dog was a member of a mutual admiration society. Both loved their owner -- but not each other. They had their own crates and would go into it if the other was spending too much time with their owner.
Both dogs were taken to temporarily stay with the deceased's family; however, that has come to an end. Dixie and Roxie are now waiting to spend their remaining sunset years in loving homes -- which they do not need to share with each other!
