This young, injured Shepherd mix, about 4-5 months old, was abandoned at the Sears store on Route 22 in Scotch Plains. He was rescued by a an officer with the Union Police Dept. who contacted the Society's Newark facility. Our Animal Control Officer was dispatched to the scene and brought him to the Society's Newark Medical Dept. "Riggs" was in obvious pain and could barely walk. Whoever had the pup tried to give their own type of medical care by wrapping the rear leg with a bandage. X-rays were taken which revealed a fractured femur -- not a condition that can heal by itself. Riggs was taken to Little Silver Animal Hospital for a further examination by Dr. Richard Yacowitz. Costly orthopedic surgery is required for Riggs to get on the road to complete recovery.
Although the Society is getting a discount, it is an unexpected expense which is paid through the Res-Q Fund. This fund is used to help care for sick and injured animals requiring specialized care. If you would like to donate to Riggs care, you can do so through the Res-Q Fund. If you are interested in adopting, please feel free to fill out an adoption application.TF63822-M.
