I saw Patrick for his second PT visit on Friday 4/15. Bruce and John were there. John took video and had me explain various techiques I was dong. Bruce took pictures.
Patrick is sweet and cooperative to work with. He was very tired after the initial visit, which is to be expected, but since his situation is so unique I felt I needed to somewhat modify my approach for his second visit. For example, I am using a light form of massage called "effleurage", which is more of a stroking type of movement to increase circulation and promote relaxation, instead of heaving kneading or friction types of massage. The muscle stretching is performed gently with not too many reps. The
type of strengthening I use for him is caled "Functional strength exercises" which are fun for him and use the whole body as a unit, being more efficient and allowing rest breaks in between. With Patrick's loss of muscle mass and general fatigue, I am trying to balance doing enough each session to help him improve while at the same time not being overly aggressive in order to avoid unnecessary soreness or strain.
I will keep giving you updates and please let me know if you need any additional info from me at any time.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide service to Patrick.
Susan E. Davis, PT
