It was too much of a coincidence .. .two starving Boxers, a male and female, found only blocks apart ... both suffering ... emaciated, starving, ulcers on the back, dehydrated, severe fly bites on the ears. They were both in urgent need of veterinary care or they could not have survived much longer. Someone probably abandoned them in the area and they were rescued by the Society's Animal Control Officer.
The dogs have been named Sophie and Truman. Sophie is estimated to be about 4 years old and refused food -- she was just too sick with a high temperature and nasal discharge. After a few days, Sophie started eating on her own and gradually improved each day.
Neither one deserved the treatment they got. Thanks to the Society's Res-Q Fund, the Society's veterinary staff has concentrated their efforts on improving their health. Life has been so unfair to these two, as well as most of the animals that come through our doors. From the time they arrived, we promised to make life better for them. And we have thanks to you and your generosity.
Sophie and Truman now display a great appetite, are well hydrated and eager for affection and acceptance. They are available for adoption - either together or separately. For more information, call the Society at 732-922-0100 or e-mail us. The Society is open 7 days a week for your convenience.
