This handsome and gentle boy is Telly, a 3 1/2 year old shepherd with a sad story. Telly was abandoned in his yard in Newark when his family moved away and left him behind. Telly lived next door to Tez, a German Shepherd that had his own sad circumstances to deal with. Tez was tied to a railing in a garbage filled backyard for months on end. Telly befriended Tez and would bring him items that he found on the streets, and the two would play together.
When the story of Tez being tied up in such awful conditions became public, Tez was taken to a veterinarian and we were asked to take Telly to our Newark facility. Unfortunately, Tez was later returned to the same owner by the law enforcement agency that handled his case, and Tez and Telly were never reunited again.
Telly was in our Newark facility since February, but he has now moved on down to Popcorn Park for a change of scenery with hopes of getting a wonderful home. Telly is truly one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. He is very shy, but not at all fearful. He likes to take his time to get to know you and when he realizes that he can trust you, he will bury his head in your knees and hope that you'll give him some affection.
Telly had a spa day as soon as he arrived at our facility, and he loved every bit of it. He is happy to have you handle him gently from head to tail and loved being pampered. Telly is not hard to please .... just treat him with love, kindness and respect and he will be your loyal and loving best friend for life. He is extremely well behaved, calm, gentle, and easy going. He gets along well with other dogs and would do well in a home with mature children. Telly is so deserving of a fresh start in life with a great family that will love him and care for him the way he deserves. He was recently sent to Popcorn Park to make some new friends and make his dreams come true.
Telly is also a member of our Share-A-Pet Program. If you cannot adopt Telly, you can sponsor him, visit and walk him. You can sponsor Telly here.
We have received many, many inquiries concerning the handsome Shepherd who was Telly's companion during an entire year -- through Hurricane Sandy and more. (Read full story here).
Society representatives have visited Tez' home and noted that the yard has become hip-high with overgrown grass and weeds and more garbage. Reports were originally received that Tez was tied outside twice a day but no one has been seen walking Tez and visits to the property show no signs of a dog relieving itself in the yard. Although the AHS was reminded that the dog belonged to the man in the house and not the wife, it should be noted that the dog stayed outside day and night -- even with the husband being inside.
Attempts were made by AHS staffers to visit and offer a sizeable reward from an animal lover so that Tez could be with Telly but we have not been able to reach anyone as they do not answer the door. The offer still stands.
It is a shame that Tez has become a casualty of war -- as those in charge decided it would be best for Tez to remain where he was.
