It is not unusual for a multiple dog household to surrender all of their dogs (or cats) due to changes in their circumstances. After the two Chihuahuas and a Dachshund were brought to our Newark shelter, the trio were sent to the Forked River facility for altering and then finding great homes for them.
The next day, a belligerent female called to advise that this was a situation of domestic violence and she wanted the return of her dogs -- and threatening the safety of our staff. Only a few hours later, we
were called by the gentleman who gave an even more horrific tale. He went to the apartment to find that the lady in question was not at home -- so he stayed at the apartment to wait for her. The gentleman advised that she did not return home for 10 days. Had he not stayed there, it is doubtful that any of these dogs would have survived.
They have been put up for adoption and waiting for a lifetime commitment. Dazzle the Dachsie and Bella and Shorty the Chihuahuas are all searching for a "new leash on life".
For more information on any of the trio, contact us or call the Society at 609-693-1900. We are open 7 days a week for your convenience. The Associated Humane Societies/Popcorn Park is located at Humane Way and Lacey Road in Forked River -- just off of Exit 74 of the Garden State Parkway.
