He was found as a stray sitting by the side of the road. The ACO says she saw cars passing by and he would stand up each time I guess hoping it was his owner coming back for him. He has pretty fresh fly strike on the top of his ears, and a cherry eye. He knows the sit command, will give his paw (left or right) and is obviously in good physical shape.
When we read of the heartbreaking account of Joe, he was at the Sussex County Animal Control in Virginia. He is a dominant gent who has been passed from one shelter to a kennel to a rescue, etc.
The Society reached out to the groups and advised that if they could not find a home for Joe, we would take him. With the number of animals that are going into shelters, his hopes had diminished.
Arrangements were made, and Joe was brought to Popcorn Park where he was neutered and given a complete medical check-up.
Joe is one of three Boxers at the Forked River shelter awaiting adoption. The Society's Forked River animal shelter is located at Humane Way and Lacey Road, off of Exit 74 (N or S) of the Garden State Parkway. For information, call 609-693-1900.
You can help Joe and other animals at the shelter by making a donation to their care. We keep our doors open to help many animals --- kindness knows no boundaries.
