The AHS Newark Shelter Manager, Denton Infield, appeared in Newark Municipal Court on Sept. 30th on behalf of Candy, a dog that had been abused by the boyfriend of a Newark resident.
The defendant was found guilty and had to pay $3,000 to the SPCA and $200 restitution to the SPCA. The defendant also had to pay a $690 veterinary bill to the Animal Emergency and Referral Veterinary Center in Fairfield. The judge ruled that since the owner turned ownership over to AHS, we would NOT receive any remuneration for the services rendered to Candy. The Society presented a bill in the amount of $520 which included emergency ambulance fee, intensive care and medical needs and our bills continue to increase for costs involved.
Candy remains in good health but still has a head tilt which may be a permanent problem. If you would like to make a donation towards Candy's recovery and for other dogs that arrive sick and/or injured, please donate to our Res-Q Fund. Candy is available for adoption.
