Reward Offered for Gideon's Abuser

READ UPDATE BELOW

First, we wish to apologize for not updating Gideon's story until now. The horror of what happened to this poor dog has been difficult to deal with. We cannot share pictures of his injuries because they are so graphic, but it is obvious that he was attacked by one or more dogs and was left with terrible injuries. He had been brought to the AHS medical department late Friday afternoon, stabilized and transported to the Animal Referral and Emergency Associates for critical and around the clock care.

The specialists at AREA did all they could to save him, but the rips and tears in his body combined with his poor physical condition could not be overcome. Dr. Lisa Bongiovani of AHS conferred with several vets at AREA who were working on Gideon. He was suffering from kidney failure, septicemia and two badly injured front legs- both of which may have had to be amputated. We had hoped to give him a better life to make up for the suffering he had experienced. Instead, it was determined by all medical personnel involved that the most humane course of treatment would be to end his suffering peacefully. He took with him a piece of the hearts of all who saw his ravaged body, and many tears were and are being shed for him. Thank you all for your prayers for Gideon. How we wish we could have saved you, dear boy.

There is still a $3,500 reward offered by AHS for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever was involved in committing this cruelty .

Please donate to help find the perpetrator(s), and please indicate it is for his Reward Fund. And please call our AHS Newark facility at (973) 824-7080 or contact us if you have any information on the monster that did this to this poor soul.

UPDATE: An individual came to the Associated Humane Societies claiming to be Gideon's owner. There is very little information to go on but we have notified the spca of the visit. If this person was being honest, this dog had a miserable life, moving from one place to another with minimal care, etc.
