Millie -Sick, Emaciated, in Need of Love

Update: Millie's Video! Posted January 12, 2012 -- Watch her running and playing in the big run at our Forked River shelter.

She is now waiting to be adopted by you! You can meet her at the shelter, contact us or call at (609) 693-1900 for more information.

Meet Millie, a young female pit bull in poor condition found as a stray in Newark. Sadly, many of the pit bulls that have been brought to the Society for various reasons have been unspayed female pit bulls. No doubt, they are used to breed and breed to sell their offspring. The animals are kept under the most horrific conditions. None are given a tender touch, held in someone's arms or given a bit of affection. They are looked at as "livestock" -- an investment to be sold, bartered, exploited.

Millie's mange may have been problematic to her owner .... it is a challenging, time consuming and expensive treatment. We do not know if she was lost, strayed or stolen. She was left to wander the streets with no care, no food, exposed to the elements. Her untreated mange has caused secondary infections, eye problems and she is extremely emaciated .... and very tired. Trying to wake her up from a sound sleep was a daunting task!

Finally feeling safe with us, she sleeps soundly ... even with a bit of prodding she remains calm and wakes up slowly with a bit of happy wag to her tail. Once awake, she discovered next to her bed a bowl of canned and dry food that she quietly approaches and takes little bites. We call her "Millie" and she has the disposition of a dog who expects very little and is grateful for any bit of kindness shown to her.

Millie will be with us for several weeks while her mange is treated. Please donate to our Res-Q Fund and help us to help her. File N-105805-F (Newark) For more information about Millie, call 973-824-7080 or contact us. Help us to make Thanksgiving a memorable one for Millie.

The Society is located at 124 Evergreen Ave. in Newark, off of Frelinghuysen Ave. and convenient to Rt. 1 and 9, the NJ Turnpike, Rt. 22 and the Garden State Parkway.

Check out Millie's progress (left.) Here she is on December 7th!

Millie has a spa day! January 18, 2012

Millie in the tub looks doubtful about a bath, above, but so adorable in her towel when she's all done. Could Millie be the girl for you?
