Australia State Set to Ban Glue Traps
|
| The State of Victoria is set to be the first to outlaw the glue traps because of the injury, suffering and distress they cause rodents and other small animals. A regulatory impact statement released in late June said the animals not only suffer extreme stress when stuck, but prolonged deaths from dehydration, exposure, starvation, suffocation and from attack by predators. Agriculture Minister Bob Cameron has invited public comment on the proposed regulations until Aug. 26th. People who use glue traps wll be hit with fines of up to $1,000 under a proposed crackdown on animal cruelty. Professional trappers kill more than 250,000 rodents in Australia each year using glue traps. |
