People like us that love animals just cannot fathom how other people sit idly by and watch an animal suffering and do nothing about it. They use and abuse animals, until it becomes inconvenient to them and the animal isn't worth the little effort they're putting into them. It seems like no one put any effort into Madison. She was just a breeding machine for someone that made lots of money off her puppies, but sure never gave this sweet girl the love or good care that she deserved. The good news is that Madison is so much better and stronger than her abuser, and she refuses to let any of this get her down. She came to AHS Newark in early September in such sad shape. She had recently given birth and was obviously still nursing, but she was taken away from her puppies because her owner, likely a backyard breeder, noticed that she had a horrible infection and they probably just didn't want to deal with it. We shudder to think what will become of her puppies that are now left without a mother to care for them, but it was unlikely that Madison could have properly cared for them with the infection that she was suffering from. Her mammary glands were severely ulcerated and necrotic; she had to have been in so much pain.Madison underwent surgery upon arrival to treat the ulcerated mammary glands and she is now on the mend and doing great. She is a strong and resilient girl that doesn't hold her poor treatment against anyone. She absolutely loves people and can't get enough attention from her new friends, and she's even good with dogs and cats too. She's eager to start over in a wonderful new home. If you can offer her that, stop in at 124 Evergreen Ave., Newark to meet her. Call 973-824-7080 or email: jvuocolo@ahsppz.org for more info on Madison. Please consider making a donation to our ResQ Fund on behalf of Madison, and so many like her, that come to AHS for help when they're tossed away and forgotten about by those that they counted on.
