Forked River is located in the scenic Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey in Ocean County. At our Forked River Shelter, which comprises 11 acres, are not only full animal sheltering and adoption facilities, but also all our Share-A-Pets, at Animal Haven Farm and Kitty City, and Popcorn Park Zoo.  Here the atmosphere is away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and you can feel

the peace and tranquility enjoyed by all the resident animals.  Forked River is a wonderful place to visit and conveniently located near Toms River and many shore vacationing spots, a lot to see for summer tourists coming from within and outside of the state of New Jersey. It's a fun place to visit for the kids, and a rare opportunity to see as many animals of this many species in one location.Pictured is Share-A-Pet Dorie in Kitty City.



Services offered at our Forked River Shelter are as follows:

  • Adoption and surrender of cats, dogs and small pets
  • Animal Control Services for nearby, contracted towns
  • Radio-dispatched ambulances on call 24 hours a day, 7days a week to handle emergencies
  • Treatment of illness and injury for shelter animals only
  • Spay and neuter of shelter animals only

Shelter hours are:  12 noon- 5:30 Monday through Friday                          12 noon - 5 pm Saturday and Sunday
