Associated Humane Societies
& Popcorn Park

Established in 1906 from humble beginnings in Newark, NJ, the Society has grown and expanded to include two other shelters in Tinton Falls and Forked River, which is also the location of Popcorn Park. Literally millions of pets, wildlife, farm and exotic animals have called us home since that time.  Some have stayed, many have been adopted, yet all have been taken under our wing with increasingly competent and compassionate care with each passing year.  We’re proud to still be serving the thousands of animals that need our help day after day, year after year.  Read on to learn more about our many services and programs.

A fleet of radio-dispatched ambulances is available 24 hours a day to assist or pick up stray, sick, injured, or trapped domestic animals or wildlife in municipalities served by the Society and parks. Staff operating AHS ambulances are Certified Animal Control Officers, trained and experienced in handling all kinds of animals.

Two comprehensive Medical Departments are located in our Newark and Forked River facilities, providing complete medical and surgical services to both privately owned and shelter animals. Spay and neuter procedures are offered at both hospitals. At Tinton Falls, a small medical department handles the neutering and treatment of shelter dogs and cats.

Dogs, cats, kittens, puppies and small animals are accepted and adopted out seven days a week at our four shelters.   In addition to continued improvements to our Newark facility, the Society is now planning a state-of-the-art expansion to our Tinton Falls facility.  This will accommodate the increasing number of animals we care for in Monmouth County. Micro-chipping of all adopted animals, to aid in the return of lost pets, is now routinely done in Newark, Tinton Falls and Forked River.  Adoption rates continue to grow through our homeless pets presence in the HUMANE NEWS, cooperation with reliable rescue groups, Petfinder, and extensive advertising. Each shelter provides routine inoculations, de-worming, flea and tick control plus any other needed medical care to the animals that come through our doors, and is adopted out microchipped and with a Health Guarantee.
