Welcome Tess - Once A Star Entertainer

Last summer a woman who does educational programs for school groups called us. She used animals in the programs and started having some problems with a “star” entertainer, Tess. Tess is a 14 year old snow macaque who, while on a harness and leash, would entertain and educate the groups or classes.

Tess reached maturity a few years back and began to challenge her owner in order to become the alpha female. Tess could no longer be part of the outreach education program and had to stay in her enclosure most of the time. That just seemed to make matters worse. Her owner searched for a facility better suited for Tess where she could have more room and more staff to interact with her.

Tess is a real sweetheart, she’ll grunt a little bit to get your attention and then she calls you over with her eyes and reaches out to groom you. She’s hard to resist. When you do go over and she starts grooming you through the

fence, be sure you have the time and don’t have to be anywhere for the next 15 or 20 minutes, because she won’t let you go. She loves all the attention she can get, if you walk by without acknowledging her she will let you know, screaming until you do so.

Tess’s favorite dinner starts with a peanut butter and jelly, then she’ll move on to a piece of rotisserie chicken, and then some pasta. She loves her fruit, grapes and her oranges the most, and she eats all her monkey biscuits. She definitely has a sweet tooth and likes a couple small marshmallows (that’s all we give her, she would eat a whole bag if she could) with her breakfast.

She gets pretty excited when she sees children and enjoys interacting with them through the fencing. You might see her jumping when the kids do and just putting on a little show for them, most likely from her time in the education program. She loves to run around in her outdoor yard and play in her water bowl or any puddles after a rain. Come on out and be sure to look her up while you’re here.

Tess is available for sponsorship in the Wildlife Club where you can donate to her care
