nessa- found chained up in a newark junkyard

When people hear the term, "junk yard dog", images come to mind of a big, strong, protective dog with a spiked collar around their neck, baring their teeth, ready to fend off intruders.  We're sure those dogs exist, and we sure wish they didn't, because no dog should have to live such a life.  But dogs like this poor dog would never come to mind.  Nessa is about 6 years old and probably never showed her teeth in her life, and she would rather lean up against an intruder trying to get attention, rather than fend them off.  Yet some idiotic person left Nessa chained up in a junkyard, dirty, starving, and ready to give up on life, until she was lucky enough to rescued when the Newark Police Dept. spotted the sad dog and brought her to our AHS Newark facility.

Nessa was a real mess when she arrived at AHS Newark right before Thanksgiving, 2019.  She was severely malnourished and weighed just 35 pounds.  Her skin was badly infected, she was infested with parasites, she was dirty and depressed, yet as soon as the staff began examining and treating her, she just melted, and she soaked up every bit of attention that they bestowed upon her.  It's so easy to bestow lots of of love and attention upon Nessa.  She is a quiet, gentle, loving girl, that leans into your leg, gazes up at you, wiggles her tail, and looks as if she truly considers you to be her savior.  She may have been mistreated and neglected in her life, but you would never know it by her incredibly loving personality.

Nessa was transferred to AHS/Popcorn Park to continue on with her recovery.  She spent several weeks being treated for a terrible cold, and intestinal issues that she picked up while living off of whatever she could find to eat in that cold, lonely junkyard.  She had many medicated baths for her infected, itchy skin too.  Nessa looks like a brand new dog these days and we're sure she's feeling the best she's ever felt in her life.  She has put on nearly 15 pounds and her skin is nearly cleared up, her cold is gone, her belly is better, and she's ready to find a good home with a family that will give her all of the love and attention that she will surely give them, and that she definitely deserves.

Come to AHS/Popcorn Park to meet Nessa anytime.  Call 609-693-1900 or email office@ahsppz.org for more info on her and refer to File#42905.  Please consider making a donation on her behalf.  Healing the body, heart, and mind of animals in need, like Nessa, don't come without a cost, and we're so incredibly grateful to have supporters that enable us to give them all that they need to live a full and happy life after surviving such a terrible experience.  Thanks so much for your support.
