Associated Humane Societies
& Popcorn Park

AHS Newark, Essex County Branch

The oldest and largest of the AHS animal care facilities, this inner city shelter sees the most difficult and heartbreaking of cases at times.  The staff who dedicate their lives to working for the animals cared for at this facility see on a daily basis what many other animal care workers only see on TV or read about.  While the cruelty cases break our hearts, the success stories make it all worth it.  AHS Newark provides a second chance for animals that have suffered abuse, abandonment, and neglect.  Our goal is that the healing that a pet receives overshadows the heartbreak that they've endured.
