Jade - Trailer Park Stray Shot with Arrow

WARNING- GRAPHIC PHOTOS!

This is another example of extreme cruelty to animals where the Society has rescued the animal and documented the case. Our Associated Humane Societies' Tinton Falls facility was contacted to pick up an injured cat at a mobile home community in Howell. When our Animal Control Officer arrived at the scene, he was horrified to see what had been done to this poor little creature. Someone had shot her with an arrow and over a foot of the arrow was protruding from her side. The cat was mortally wounded but still alive so our ACO acted quickly and carefully, and took her straight to an emergency veterinary hospital.

After three long hours, a skilled surgeon at the veterinary hospital was able to remove the arrow. The arrow had pierced the lung, the liver, and came very close to the aorta and heart. It is truly a miracle that this little cat survived and we are thrilled with the fantastic job that the surgeon did saving her life.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that we have seen this cat, whose name is Jade. Jade was brought to our Tinton Falls facility one time before as a stray and at that time, we vetted and microchipped her. She was later reclaimed by a woman who claimed to be Jade's owner. The woman has made comments to the press that she wants return of the cat. According to newspaper reports, residents of the mobile home park advised that it was a neighborhood cat -- everyone's cat but no one's cat. Jade had become an outside cat to the detriment of her health and life. We feel that Jade needs to be in a home with proper safeguards and responsibility. It's very unfortunate that beautiful Jade could not be protected from this awful cruelty that was inflicted upon her. The AHS has a fund for the veterinary emergency care of Jade. Please make a donation to our Res-Q Fund and indicate it's for Jade.

This is a photo of Jade when she arrived at our Tinton Falls shelter in October 2012.

The Associated Humane Societies is offering a $2,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator. Anyone with information in this case should contact the Howell Police Department who has been investigating the incident.
