Felix - Leaped Off Roof after 3 Freezing Days Stranded There

Each day, the AHS receives numerous unwanted cats and kittens -- many who had to deal with inconceivable obstacles to survival.

When City of Newark firefighters were fighting a warehouse fire they were advised by some youths that a cat was up on the roof -- and had been there for 3 days! The cat spent 3 days in bone-chilling weather, without shelter, food or water. It is not known if it was the fire, the noise of the trucks, the crowd of people but the terrified cat jumped from the roof (approximately 200 feet).

Tom Circle, ACO for the Associated Humane Societies was called to the scene to rescue the cat from the firefighters. The white/black male cat was immediately brought to the Animal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA) in Fairfield. He had no microchip, was found to be FeLV/FIP negative and needed fluid support and medical management. There was a fracture and dislocation of the right front leg which needed to be addressed as well as concern for the pulmonary contusions.

The AERA recommended either orthopedic repair or amputation of the limb.

Felix was sent to Popcorn Park Animal Clinic for a review of the case and are presently in contact with an orthopedic specialist.

Our Res-Q Fund is in need of replenishing to help Felix and needy sick and injured cats that come through our doors.

Felix is presently resting comfortably and a medical review and decision will be made concerning the break in his leg. We will update through the website or the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter Facebook page.

For more information, contact 609-693-1900 or e-mail us on his care.

Felix, like so many other cats available for adoption, had little or no responsible care while in the outside world. They are with us now and hope you will take one into your heart and home.
