Pepe Just Wanted Attention

Most of you can just picture a young, lively dog, with puppyish energy, a constant smile, a tail that never stops wagging, and the eagerness to get attention from anyone that will give it to him. Now imagine that dog, a dog that is only a little over a year old, being left in a filthy, dirty alleyway covered in garbage, day in and day out, alone. We all know that all a dog wants is attention. Well, the only attention this dog got was when his owner stopped by to beat him mercilessly.

We don't know how long Pepe lead this dreadful life of solitude and abuse but thankfully, he spoke up for himself. He barked when people passed by to get their attention and finally, someone took notice of this poor boy that just wanted a good home, a few toys, and a family to love him but instead, lived among garbage with no food or water, and an owner that beat him regularly.

When the neighbors spoke up on Pepe's behalf, Orange Animal Control Officer, Rudy Giordano, visited the residence and left a warning notice concerning the danger of have "live" electrical cords hanging all around Pepe and even wrapped around him, especially since when Pepe would become bored, he would chew on the wires. There was also no food, water or bowls in his alleyway and the conditions that Pepe was living in were just deplorable. ACO Giordano returned the following day and saw the situation unchanged for poor Pepe. When the ACO returned on the third day and Pepe was still languishing there in his alleyway, he confiscated the grateful dog and brought him to our Associated Humane Societies Newark facility. ACO Giordano issued summonses to the owner for animal cruelty answerable in Orange Municipal Court. Pepe's owner did not show up for the court date, so a bench warrant has been issued.

In the meantime, Pepe is thrilled to be away from his sad and pathetic life in the alleyway and is eager to put his past behind him and find out what a real home and family are all about. He is resting and relaxing at AHS Newark where he is getting all of the good care that he deserves. To make a donation on behalf of Pepe, text ResQ to 501501 to make a $10.00 donation, or click here to donate to our ResQ fund.

Pepe would love the opportunity to meet potential adopters that could offer him the happy and safe life that a young pup should be living. For more information on Pepe (File #24777), please call AHS Newark at 973-824-7080 or send us an email.
