Owner's Moved and Left Faith & Hope Behind

Sometimes there are truly no words to describe our disappointment and disgust for those that have absolutely no regard for the lives of innocent animals. At all of our Associated Humane Societies facilities, we see the saddest of sad cases come to us in need of help but it never gets any easier, no matter how much abuse and neglect we see. This particular story brings tears to our eyes, and is so gut wrenching and heartbreaking, that it makes you wonder, once again, what is wrong with the world that we live in?

These two small, female terriers, were found by our AHS-Newark ACO, Tom, exactly as you see them in these sad pictures- soaking wet, starving, and wondering what on earth they could have done to deserve such horrid treatment. Tom got the call to go out to a residence in Newark, NJ on Sunday to rescue the frightened dogs that were abandoned in a backyard after their owners moved out. According to neighbors, the owners moved out several days earlier, leaving one dog (that is completely blind) chained to the fence, and the other in a crate in the yard. Neither dog had food, water, or any shelter from the element. The neighbors made the call to get help for the terriers when the storm came in on Sunday and brought torrential downpours, high winds, and cold temperatures. Tom scooped up the terrified pair and brought them to the warmth and safety of AHS- Newark, where they were immediately warmed up and fed.

After a good night's sleep, the little pair were given thorough veterinary exams and a good, long, spa day. Once cleaned up and feeling like brand new pups, they were transferred to AHS/Popcorn Park to begin recovering from their dreadful ordeal. Faith, a black, shih tzu/terrier mix and Hope, a yorkie, are resting comfortably and hoping to put their sad past behind them quickly. Hope is blind and is around 5 years old while Faith is only around a year old. We can't imagine how anyone could do such a thing to these two sweet, friendly, loving little dogs, but we will do everything in our power to help restore their faith in humanity, and show them that not all humans are bad.

Faith and Hope are just two of many, many sad cases that come to us every single day in need of help. We are able to provide them with all they need to recover, thanks to our wonderful supporters. If you would like to contribute toward the care of Faith and Hope, please text ResQ to 501501 to make a $10.00 donation, or donate to our ResQ Fund.

Thank you, and we will update again soon on our new little friends, Faith and Hope.
