Jetta Stood Guard Over JOANIE After Accident

For anyone that believes that animals do not form a strong bond with each other, we would invite you to come in and meet our friends, Joanie and Jetta. These girls know the true meaning of friendship, and stand by each other even in their darkest of days.

Joanie (tan) and Jetta (gray & white), are two young female pit bulls that had the unfortunate luck of becoming strays on the streets of Hillside, NJ where Joanie was hit by a car. When police officers arrived on the scene, they saw poor Joanie, sprawled out in the street, while Jetta stood by her, protecting her. She would not leave her friends side. The officers put both dogs in the their vehicle and brought them to AHS Newark and since it was so early in the morning, the officers were kind enough to wait with the pair until staff arrived. Once it was time to go in the building, Jetta would not take a step until Joanie could go with her.

Joanie was taken to Animal Emergency and Referral Associates in Fairfield to be treated for her injuries. They treated her many abrasions and took x-rays and discovered that poor Joanie had a broken pelvis. Joanie was stabilized and made comfortable, then her and best friend Jetta were transferred to AHS/Popcorn Park.

Joanie and Jetta have taken up residence in our Vinnie Van Gogh Recovery Suite and are probably the most comfortable and cared for that they have ever been. Joanie needs strict confined rest while her broken pelvis heals so she is propped up on lots of fluffy beds and blankets, enjoying the attention and pampering that she's getting. In the meantime, Jetta dances around her, making sure she is ok, licking her wounds, sniffing her for any signs of something being amiss, and taking good care of her best friend. The two are absolutely inseparable and cannot even go out for their morning walks without one another, otherwise they will cry and cry until they're together. Not only do Joanie and Jetta love each other, they just love people too. They simply melt when you give them attention and they just couldn't be any sweeter and more friendly.

We are thankful to have our Res-Q Fund to call on, once again, to cover all of the medical expenses for the girls. If you would like to contribute toward their care, please text ResQ to 501501 to make a $10.00 donation or click here to donate to our Res-Q Fund

Once Joanie has had the time to recover a bit more, the girls will be ready to find a new home where they will get all of the love and attention that they deserve. Please call us at 609-693-1900 or you can email us if you are interested in adopting the girls. Stay tuned for more from Joanie and Jetta.
