Over 12 years ago, Thelma and Louise were found as strays in Weequahic Park in Newark. It appeared that these young ladies had been through a lot – meager meals, freezing weather, lack of care. When it appeared that no one wanted to adopt the twosome, they were sent to Forked River and added to our Share-A-Pet Program. The doggy duo became well known and enjoyed their sponsorships, walks, treats and lots of canine friends. Several sponsors in the past wanted to adopt one or the other but could not take both. One of the sponsors was the Elia family of Waretown.
Several months ago, when Louise passed away, the Elia Family decided to take Thelma into their hearts and home. She has a new name – Maggie - and after a few weeks in her new home, she is completely relaxed and housebroken. She has enjoyed a puppyhood she never had the chance to have before. Also at home are 2 cats and a 1 ½ year old Pomeranian named Princess. According to Cheryl Elia: “Maggie is our angel. It was the most wonderful adoption and taking an older dog is a great experience …. awesome”.
Alyssa Elia, (above), 8 years old, welcomes Thelma with a brand new doggy toy for her.
