Declan - Eking Out A Living on Newark Streets

If you are wondering what it is like to work in an inner-city shelter, meet one of the pathetic dogs that can be trying to eke out survival. The Associated Humane Societies is located at 124 Evergreen Ave. in Newark and has been here for over 100 years. The young male pit bull terrier is so horribly emaciated, his body was close to shutting down. He is one of many that arrive each day hoping for someone who will care. We do -- we care and we handle all of the sick, injured, abused animals, make them better and start them off on a new road in life.

We call him Declan which means "full of goodness". He is malnourished, dehydrated and has demodectic mange. He is feeling quite miserable for the lack of concern by anyone he has met along the way & is so grateful for those he has met at the Society.

When he was brought to us today, he was immediately taken into the Medical Dept. where he will meet with caring veterinarians and staff. We will do all we can to make him better and it is our hope that within a few weeks, the pictures you see posted will be a stark contrast to the pathetic dog who looked to us for hope and we responded.

Thanks to your kindness and generosity to the Res-Q Fund, the Associated Humane Societies is proud to make a difference in the lives of the needy animals that come through our doors.

Declan is one of over 200 dogs that are at the Society's Newark facility in need of "a new leash on life".

For more information on Declan, call the Society at 973-84-7080 and refer to File 116508 or e-mail us.

The Society is located at 124 Evergreen Ave. in Newark, 3 blocks before the Elizabeth line, just off of Rt. 1 & 9. Open 7 days a week for your convenience.
