Popcorn Park Zoo had some special staff helping out on Friday, March 18 - DJ Ray Rossi from radio station NJ101.5. Ray is the "other half" of the Jersey Guys - Craig Carton and Ray Rossi, who keep New Jersey company on their commute home from 2 - 7 pm. The station offers "Ray for a Day" -- all you need do is apply. One of our Board Members thought this was a great idea, and our Executive Director, Roseann Trezza followed through and applied.
It didn't take long before Ray was outfitted in a Popcorn Park Zoo sweatshirt and put to work. The plan was for Ray to take care of all ends of the animals, and that he did. Under the supervision of Zoo Director, John Bergmann and other staff members, Ray prepared food for our monkeys, cutting up fruits and vegetables; brushed our sweetheart of a camel, Princess, (after shoveling up what she left behind), and then fed her her favorite - graham crackers. Ray also cleaned up the enclosure of Bengali; one of our tigers; took the temperature of one of our horses, and met Mr. Wiggles our spider monkey. He also met our tigers and cougars "up close and personal".
Inside our animal shelter at Popcorn Park, Ray had an opportunity to meet some of the dogs who recently came in from Arkansas, and visited Kitty City where he tackled one kitty litter box.
No matter the task, Ray was a hard worker and took on any and everything we dished out, no matter which end of the animal it entailed. For this we thank him - he was a great sport - and if he ever needs another job ... well, we'll have a spot for him here!
