Popcorn Park Zoo is proud to welcome three adorable miniature horses to our fold - Troy, Star and Early Surprise. They came to us in the beginning of May 2005, and just now have been moved into their own paddock and brand new barn. They came from an elderly couple in Howell, who owned a small farm and had loved and doted on their animals for years. The oldest, Troy, 16 years old, was raised by them from a youngster. But as the couple grew older and the farm became too much for them to handle, they found no option but to sell the property and move into manageable quarters. This left their three beloved mini's with nowhere to go.
They contacted Popcorn Park, and luckily, we were able to find the room. Troy, the oldest is a 16 year old pinto gelding who was a sire to Star and Early Surprise. He's very outgoing, and enjoys other animals. While waiting to move into their new barn, he befriended the emu on the other side of the fence! Star is a 13 year old bay mare and daughter to Troy. She is the more reserved of the three, and although they're still settling in, it seems that she sets the tone for the little herd. Early Surprise was just that. At six he's the youngest, another pinto and a gelding, but was totally unexpected!! He is always the first one to greet everyone at the fence, and very sweet.
The trio is settling in very nicely and enjoy visitors. They love to be handled by staff, and show wonderful temperaments with anything and everything.
