The Popcorn Zoo is located in the Pinelands Region of New Jersey, in Lacey Township, which is in Ocean County. It as founded in 1977. The Popcorn Zoo is home to many abandoned, mistreated, or elderly animals such as dogs, cats, wildlife, birds and farm animals. Many people donate to care for the animals in danger.
Share-A-Pet program is one way that the zoo raises money to care for the animals. Share-A-Pet program was established in February 1978 to save lives of dogs and cats for various reasons that were in special need of a "New Leash on Life".Animals are selected by the Humane Society staff from among those at the Animal Care Centers which the Society considers unadoptable due to age, handicap, medical problems, abuse, length of stay, etc. The people donating money are caring for the animals with no homes and no food. Because of the Popcorn Zoo and their programs, the animals have a great home and delicious popcorn and peanuts as treats. Little kids and adults get to feed them as they walk around the zoo.
The Popcorn Zoo is a great place for people to come, have fun and learn about the animals while they are also giving back to the animals. If the animals can speak they would be saying "Thank you for donating money and saving our lives".
